Castilla-La Mancha will release on wednesday first captivity born lynx on a historical distribution area

On Wednesday, July 2, Castilla – La Mancha will be the chosen place for the first captivity born lynx specimens release, designed to contribute to the recovery of their presence in Spain historical distribution areas of this species. The release of 8 lynx will take place at Serra Morena’s east area.

This event will be a major step regarding the aim of increasing lynx current population in the Iberian Peninsula and expand their population groups besides Doñana and Andújar.

The release previous work was focus on the analyze of the chosen areas to the reintroduction of lynx and if they fulfill the suitable biological conditions to their reintroduction, such as, right rabbits density, habitat quality and absence of threats to their survival. Furthermore, there was society and local communities support in the selected areas, beyond cynegetic sector.
