Representatives of Andalusia Regional Council visit the Elche University Bioengineering Institute

Francisco Javier Madrid, Natural Resource Management director-general of Andalusia Regional Council, and Miguel Ángel Simón Coordinator of LIFE+Iberlince Project, visited on June 25, Genetic and Biological Resource Center of Endangered Fauna of Andalusia Regional Council, located at Miguel Hernández University Bioengineering Institute, at Elche. In the course of the visit both were accompanied by Fernando Borrás, Research and Innovation Vice-rector and Trindad León, Center Director.
The Center hosts 4257 samples of 301 Iberian Lynx specimens, species in which are specialized since 2005, time when Miguel Hernández University and Andalusia Regional Council signed the first arrangement that unites them in a partnership based on investigation and diseases study (and theirs solutions) in order to preserve lynx. During the visit, was highlight the fact that these Center is “the first endangered species alive tissues and cells bank of all Spanish territory, anticipating 2007 Natural Heritage Law, as well as the first autonomous region specialized bank”.
