Releases of the Iberian Lynx in Extremadura for 2016 has just begun

Today Friday, January 29, it have begun the lynx releases for the year 2016 in Extremadura. Technicians of the Life+Iberlince Project coordinated by the General Director of Environment of the Ministry of Environment and Rural and Agricultural Policies Territory Regional Government of Extremadura, made the first release of a male specimen from the Acebuche Breeding Centre.
Milano – the name of a copy – will be released by the method of hard loose, consisting in a release directly to nature without going through acclimation environments. It will be furnished with a GPS locator that will allow adequate monitoring by technicians.
Milano will be the first of nine lynx to be released in Extremadura in 2016 and the work has continued as the reintroduction started in 2014; thus they will join the 14 copies rampant today by Extremadura. On the next week they will proceed to the release of another 5 copies with soft loose (in acclimatization enclosure) and lasts released (directly in nature).
The Life+Iberlince Project aims to initiate the recovery of the historical range of the Iberian lynx in Spain and Portugal, achieving stable, self-sustaining populations that ensure the future of the species. It financed the 61.57% by the European Union and coordinated by the Government of Andalusia, it is a transnational project that involved nineteen partners and commits both countries: Spain and Portugal, which account for the entire historical range of the Iberian lynx. It is also a project that goes through the Spanish regions and, for that reason, encompasses the regions of Andalucia, Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha and Murcia.
The project has also the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, Alimentation and Environment through the General Department of the Environment and the Autonomous Organization of National Parks. They have also joined organizations such as CBD-Habitat, WWF, SECEM and ADENEX, and other related sectors APROCA hunting and the Andalusian Federation of Hunting, and private companies Agroforex, FOMECAM and ACAJÚ.
