1st edition of the Barrancos IBERLINCE Trail
2017-09-18
Barrancos, in the inner Alentejo region, will host the 1st edition of the Barrancos Iberlince Trail on November 18th, 2017. The event seeks to raise population awareness regarding the need to preserve the Iberian lynx in Portugal. Participants will trail along the lynx’s tracks, including the Castle of Noudar, Monte da Coitadinha, Ermita das Flores, the Múrtega creek and the Ardila river, among cottages and windmills, valleys and mountains.
Sítio Moura / Barrancos is one of the areas of the Iberian lynx’s historical incidence, where a suitable habitat can be found, the Mediterranean woods. Because it’s relatively close to the Matachel Valley reintroduction area, it is possible that Sítio Moura / Barrancos is occupied by animals dispersing from that area in search of new territories.
The Barrancos Iberlince Trail consists of three different trials: the Mini Trail (11 km), Trail (21 km) and the Long Trail (40 km), whereas the latter is integrated in the Lacatoni Portugal Trail Cup, South Area, as part of the Portugal Trail Running Association (ATRP) calendar.
The initiative is organized by the Barrancos Futebol Clube (BFC) with the endorsement of the LIFE+Iberlince project, Barrancos Municipality, Biogado and Barrancos Schools Group. Applications can be submitted through the website
