Today May 4 it was confirmed the second litter of puppies of Iberian lynx in the mountains of Toledo, as a result of the work carried out under the project for the recovery of the historical range of the Iberian lynx, Life+Iberlince. This time it is a litter of four cubs of about forty-five days old.
The hatchlings have been located with its mother, Kuna, born in 2013 and released in December 2014, from the breeding centre of Silves (Portugal).
Just as in the case of the first puppies localized environmental agents and technicians of the Life+Iberlince Project, they had hoped that this issue came to also rise this year. Confirmation of the birth of these four cubs comes after a routine review of the photo-trapping cameras located in the area.
From the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Development, this fact is assessed as very positive for the conservation of this species, which is not reproduced in Montes de Toledo for decades, confirming the excellent adaptation to the environment that are showing examples from of breeding centres, as well as good natural conditions in the Montes de Toledo to house back to the species.
The Ministry wants to take advantage again this happy news to recognize the important work of the owners of farms that collaborate with the project to reintroduce the species.
