Private property owners cooperate with Junta de Andaluzia to preserve populations of Iberian Lynx
2014-11-17
Last Saturday, November 15th, the counselor of Environment and Territorial Planning, María Jesús Serrano, signed in Cazalla de la Sierra (Sevilha) three collaboration agreements with the prívate property owners, to develop the LIFE+Iberlince project, destined to recover the Iberian Lynx populations in Andaluzia. These agreements were signed by the owners of Majadal Alto (Villanueva del Río and Minas), Maja Vieja and Gibla, properties, these last two, located in the municipal area of Constantina.
Most of the activities considered on these agreements are related with the improvement of the wild rabit populations, elementary and primary prey in the diet of the Iberian Lynx. These measures consist in, create breeding shelters, installation of feed and water vessels, signalling closed areas, clearing the extreme rough areas to provide the pastures growth in areas with
food shortages, as well as the construction of shelters in areas without hiding spaces.
These measures help to improve the feeding habitat of this species, contributing to eliminate one of the main problems and threats they face, which is not more than the food shortage.
After the signing of the agreement, the counselor saw the musical “Las aventuras de Lino”, provided by a women theater group from Alanís named “Mas allá de mi cocina”, where through a fable, is intended to create public awereness of the importance of the Iberian Lynx conservation and reintroduction in North of Sevilha.
