First breeding Iberian lynx born in freedom in Portugal

Today, May 5, the existence of the first litter of Iberian lynx in the Vale do Guadiana Natural Park was confirmed. A cub about 45 days old in the company of its mother, Jacarandá, the first female released in Portugal on December 16, 2014. The cub and the mother have been identified in the monitoring and follow-up work photographed.
Jacarandá freed itself from the framework of the Life+Iberlince Project (LIFE10NAT / ES / 570) and was released, along with Katmandú in fencing soft loose in the farm Herdade das Romeiras and subsequently released on February 1, 2015. Jacarandá was born in 2012 in the National Reprodution Center of Iberian lynx in Silves (Portugal), a descendant of Flora and Focus.
This event is considered an important milestone in the conservation of the Iberian lynx as it is the first confirmed successfully in Portuguese territory for decades of reproduction. ICNF takes the opportunity to acknowledge the work of the owners managers of the farm Herdade das Romeiras, collaborating with Life+Iberlince Project, and that have also been awarded the prize for the conservation of the Iberian lynx 2015, held recently in Sevilla for the Life+Iberlince Project.
