2014-11-27
Yesterday, finally, after more than 15 years without the proven presence of this species in the Montes de Toledo, were released three specimens in this historic area, for this feline, starting the fulfillment of one of LIFE + Iberlince project goals, the recovery of the historical range of the species.
The counsellor of Agriculture and the owners of the property where they were released, were responsible to open the boxes with Kuna, Kahn and Kentaro, coming from the National Center for Reproduction of Iberian lynx in captivity in Silves, Portugal.
The specimens are in an adaptation wire fence, where they remain for 20 days, once they are properly adapted to the new environment will definitely be released.
Subsequently, this operation shall be repeated with the other specimens, until the eight predicted for the year are reached.
The animals are tagged with GPS collars, which will facilitate the monitoring when they will finally released in the wild.
The cooperation between the administration and the individuals, has become one of the most important tools for the conservation of the species. The agreements between them, not only enabled the implementation of conservation actions that becomes important participation tools in the project Life+ development, but also make the owners aware, through its participation in the Iberian Lynx conservation.
