Lynx hit in Bailen and a possible accidental drowning in Montes de Toledo
2016-08-01
Yesterday, July 31, experts from the Ministry of Environment and Spatial attached to the Life + program Iberlince Territory, received notice of an Iberian lynx run over in the A-4 in the town of Bailen (Jaén).
It is about a radiolabelled three years old male.
The animal has been transferred to the Centre for Analysis and Diagnosis of Wildlife (CAD) of the Government of Andalusia, where he is practicing necropsy.
On Friday 29 July, in the late afternoon Environmental Agents they found the body of a female Iberian lynx released in the reintroduction area of Montes de Toledo this year.
The specimen was found in a well in a private plot in the municipality of Las Ventas con Peña Aguilera (Toledo). Accidental drowning appears to be the likely cause of death. Environmental agents proceeded to the removal of the body and then transferred to the referral center for conducting animal necropsy to determine the cause of death.
Life+IBERLINCE project partners are in acting many points of water, such as wells, ponds and tanks, to avoid risks to wildlife.
