Students of Valdepeñas very involved in the protection of the Iberian Lynx.
2016-12-29
Firstly, from Iberlince we thank the teaching team and in particular Yolanda and Mª Victoria, two teachers from the CEIP Maestro Juan Alcaide and San Agustín schools, respectively, located in the town of Valdepeñas (Ciudad Real). Interest and collaboration, we have been able to bring to their students the project of reintroduction of the Iberian lynx in Castilla-La Mancha.
The students received with great interest and attention all the information offered on the biology of the lynx and the work that is done for its protection. Likewise, they were very participative in the games that were made to learn about the lynx, an unknown animal and that impressed the majority. On the other hand, three secondary groups that already had certain bases on the species, had the opportunity to know closely the actions that are developed under the Life+IBERLINCE project, in favor of the species in the areas reintroduction of Montes de Toledo and Sierra Morena.
Schoolchildren were very interested in the methods used for feline tracking. The knowledge of the geolocation by radio following and GPS-GSM technology and its importance for the control of the population of our feline more scarce.
As a result of this all, they approached this endangered species and gained a deeper understanding of the vulnerability of the lynx, a species that is increasingly close to the public, but which at times is unknown to many. Finally, to FomeCam we only must return to thank those who are involved through these actions, to give us the opportunity to approach and make known our cat, the Iberian lynx.
