Located in the town of Jimena (Jaén) an Iberian lynx female trapped in a loop
2017-01-12
The Ministry of Environment and Territorial Planning announced today that the Life+IBERLINCE technicians have located an Iberian lynx on a hunting ground located in the municipality of Jimena (Jaén), thanks to the continuous monitoring of the Collar emitter that he carried when he was caught in the lasso that caused him death. This specimen, a female of two years old born in the Breeding Center of Silves (Portugal) and named Melisandre, had been released in the reintroduction area of Guarrizas (Jaén) in February 2016.
After the find, Life+IBERLINCE technicians advised the Environment Agents of the Junta de Andalucía and the Civil Protection Service of Nature, who after lifting the body are combing the area in search of other illegal gear. The body of the animal has been sent to the Center of Analysis and Diagnosis of Andalusia (CAD), based in Malaga, where the necropsy and the necessary analyzes will be performed to try to determine the cause of death.
It should be noted that in the area where Melisandre had been established, between the municipalities of Jimena, Bedmar and Albanchez, two bearded vultures had already been killed by poison, so a meeting was held with the presidents of the hunting grounds of the Place to inform of the presence of Iberian lynx specimens and to request their collaboration.
