The Life+IBERLINCE Project releases three new Iberian lynx specimens in Extremadura

With these 3, there are already 6 copies released in 2017 in the region, where it is expected to release the other copies in the months months
The three new specimens released are juvenile specimens born in 2016. They are two males and one female: Negro, Nitrogeno and Noz. Negro (male) and Noz (female), come from the Breeding Center of Silves in Portugal; Nitrogen, the last male released yesterday, born in the Zoobotánico de Jerez, was trained in La Olivilla, Andalusia.
These releases have taken place in areas of reintroduction in the south of Badajoz. All the lynxes released from the systems with a GPS of location that allow to follow the displacements and uses of the territory which guarantees the adequate improvement of the individuals in the environment and the guarantee its adequate monitoring by the technicians.
Today, 28 children in the territory of Extremadura, which are linked throughout the Life+IBERLINCE Project began the releases in 2014. The reintroductions are the result of the actions carried out by the Directorate General for the Environment From Extremadura, the Life+IBERLINCE Project and with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Environment (MAPAMA).
In Extremadura, the Life+IBERLINCE Project has an investment of 4.8 million euros and with the participation of the General Directorate of the Environment and three other partners: the company Agroforex, the Foundation CBD-Hábitat and Adenex. Also collaborating are the Center for Captive Breeding of the Iberian Lynx of Zarza de Granadilla, of the Autonomous Organism of National Parks; The Andalusian breeding and captivity centers of Olivilla and Acebuche; And the breeding center of Silves in Portugal.
The main objective of the Life+IBERLINCE Project is to recover the historical distribution of the Iberian lynx both in Spain and Portugal, and is already in danger of extinction according to the IUCN.
