Dehesa
2017-02-24
On the last February 1, the tracking team of Andújar-Cardeña detected Dehesa in a very poor physical condition. Immediately a device of capture was mounted to be able to evaluate the injuries of the copy. Dehesa was captured in its territory the following day. In addition to being very thin, Dehesa had numerous wounds caused by bites of another carnivore, both on the dorsal side of the neck and on the extremities. In the exploratory examination, a thorough cure and disinfection of all the wounds was performed, and the veterinary team prescribed a treatment with analgesics and antibiotics for 10 days. At that time, Dehesa remained in the center of recovery of endangered species "El Blanqueo" in Granada. Once the treatment was concluded, on Thursday, February 23, the animal was again checked to evaluate the evolution of the lesions. At the checkup it was verified that the wounds had healed and that the female presented a very good physical condition, weighing five kilos more than at the time of entry. For this reason, Dehesa was returned to its territory that same day.
Dehesa was born in the Natural Park of Cardeña in 2007, and reached its present territory in the heart of the neighboring Andújar Natural Park two years later. In October 2016, accompanied by his 7-month-old cub, Dehesa left its territory to cross the mountains of Andújar, reach the olive groves surrounding the A-4 motorway and end in a semi-urbanized area near Andújar. There it remained until the last week of January, when he returned quickly to its habitual territory, where it was detected some days earlier in a very bad condition.
In this case the history of the injuries provoked by a fierce fight has finished well for this example, and already champions by the Sierra de Andújar as it has done in its 10 years of life. Dehesa has had a new opportunity thanks to the work of follow-up and the health control carried out in the project Life+IBERLINCE.
