We are still working to minimize lynx run over
2014-08-14
Over the past months, has been made continuous contacts with the responsible technicians for the road system management, competence of the Ministry of Public Works, in order to find urgent measures to minimize run over lynx death.
On of the roads were has been more lynx run overs on the last year, was the High-way A-4 (Madrid-Cádiz), near Serra de Andújar. This way, on the 7th of August a new camp trip was made with LIFE+Iberlince project technicians and the responsible by this conservation section.
In the last few months, maintenance crews, in the light of the tenders received and requests made by Iberlince project, has made several maintenance works, like repair damages protection fences and cleanness of net drains that allow fauna to cross these high-ways.
On viaducts over Escobar, Plomeros and Rumblar streams, were installed other infra-structures which helps lynx cross, and of every type of fauna.
However, these three good crossing points seem insufficient to the extension of this section that affects lynx on this area.
This situation, require the installation of wildlife safeguard free access on specific points, on intermediate points were these preventing measures didn’t have sufficient results, confirmed by the run over repetition. Therefore, it’s being study the possibility of installing some wildlife safeguard free access and enlarge the existing drainage systems to allow animals cross.
This kind of work, that allows the compatibility between wildlife conservation and populations connectivity, should be made with specifics budgets that fall outside the current scope of Iberlince project.
