The first puppies of the breeding season are born within the conservation program of the Iberian lynx

A total of 17 pups have been born in the last weeks in the centers of captive breeding of the Peninsula

The breeding season has already begun in the Peninsula and the number of pups born within the conservation program of the Iberian lynx already reaches the 17 specimens. This figure corresponds to the lynx specimens born in the different captive breeding centers of Spain and Portugal. In particular, in the center of Zarza de Granadilla (Cáceres), El Acebuche (Huelva), La Olivilla (Santa Elena, Jaén) and Silves (Portugal).

The first of the births took place in the center of Silves, on 28 February, where the female Biznaga bred a litter of three puppies. This birth was followed by Haima and Juno in Zarza de Granadilla, on 6 and 8 March, respectively, of which six more were born.

In the El Acebuche breeding center was born a puppy of the female Adelfa last March 11, while in the breeding center of La Olivilla the births took place on 13 and 15 March. Of them were born a total of seven cubs, four of them of the female Cinara and three of the female Coscoja.

To this figure will be added in the next few weeks the Iberian lynx cubs born in freedom, which have not yet been registered by the technicians of the Life + Iberlince project in charge of monitoring the new specimens, who will accompany their mothers in the field.
