A new specimen of Iberian lynx released in the Matachel Valley in Extremadura
2017-04-24
Namibia, a female Iberian lynx from the Granadilla Breeding Center has been released today in the Matachel Valley area by means of a "hard" release.
With this, there are seven Life+IBERLINCE releases in 2017, and another one will be released in May, culminating in this year's releases.
This reintroduction is the result of the actions carried out within the Life+IBERLINCE Project by the Ministry of the Environment and Rural, Agricultural Policies and Territory of the Junta de Extremadura.
The main objective of this project is to recover the historical distribution of the Iberian lynx both in Spain and Portugal, since it is the most threatened feline in the world and is currently in danger of extinction. In Extremadura, the initiative has an investment of 4.8 million euros and with the participation of the General Directorate of Environment (which contributes 1.2 million euros) and three other partners, the company Agroforex, Foundation CBD-Habitat and Adenex.
