Actions to reduce the risk of Iberian lynx’s run over
2017-05-09
With the aim of reducing the risk of Iberian lynx’s run over in the northern sector of Doñana, the Ministry of Development, partner of the project Life+IBERLINCE, completed several weeks of waterproofing works on the A-49 motorway, specifically at the height of the municipalities of Bollullos and La Palma del Condado. The work has been carried out in two places where three hijackings have taken place, and have consisted in ensuring the isolation of the junction of the motorway exit to these two towns, by reviewing and replacing the deteriorated perimeter fence. Likewise, the docks of three upper passages located to the east of the knot have been waterproofed with simple twisting, steps that by their arrangement allowed the easy access of lynxes to the islets that are created next to the road, and that cost the life to a lynx specimen on the last year.
These actions are in addition to those already carried out by the same Ministry on the A-4 motorway between Andújar and Bailén, which consisted of adapting the drainage works used by the lynx to allow safe crossing of the animals on both sides of the highway. At this time, the ministry's road conservation teams are also completing the works to isolate a section of the A-4 at the height of the Rumblar River, by means of the simple torsion grid fencing of the descending margin.
These measures, which try to prevent and prevent further Iberian lynx abuses on our roads, have been carried out and are being carried out in the black spots or conflicting sections identified by the LIFE project technicians, and are in addition to all measures which from Life+IBERLINCE are being developed to try to alleviate this threat to the species.
