Registration of an Iberian lynx’s passage in hydraulic passage on N122 (Mértola)

The Iberlinx Association and the ICNF are jointly monitoring the hydraulic passages that will be operated by the Infrastructures of Portugal, S.A., in order to be suitable for the passage of animals. These structures are not prepared to serve as a passageway for wild animals, although they are used by some species.

On the 13th of May, around 22:20, a passage of an Iberian lynx was recorded on the N122, in one of these passages. In addition to the lynx, other species such as the fox, dragoons and genets were photographed using these structures.

The adaptations of the hydraulic passages increase the permeability of the roads, and the safety against the trampling of species as endangered as the Iberian lynx.
