Iberian lynx male victim of a run over in Mértola (Portugal)

The lynx, named "Neco", was born in the captive breeding center of Zarza de Granadilla (Extremadura) in 2016 and was released in the reintroduction area of the Vale do Guadiana (Portugal).

The body was located by a neighbor of the area near midnight on 05/17/2017 on the municipal road linking Mértola with Corte Gafo de Cima. This neighbor contacted the beneficiary partner of the ICNF project that activated the protocol of action of abuses. The corpse was picked up by a Nature Keeper from the Department of Conservation of Nature and Forests of the Alentejo and transferred it to the center where the necropsy will be performed to determine the causes of death.
