Novata, a one-year-old female gives birth to two cubs in Andújar-Cardena

This spring, a merely one year-old female Iberian lynx named Novata gave birth to two cubs in the area of Andújar-Cardeña. This has been confirmed by Life Iberlince project specialists responsible for monitoring the Iberian lynx population in Andalusia during this year's camera trap campaign, currently at 50% of its execution.

This is an unprecedented accomplishment for the species, as it’s uncommon for lynx females to give birth to their cubs within the first year of life. In addition, it so happens that this young female, born in 2016, was still sharing territory with her mother, named Kaleshi, although they have been raised in different refuges.

Last spring, both mother and daughter gave birth to two litters of two cubs each, as recorded by the specialists who monitor the lynx population in the area.
