Thanks to Life+IBERLINCE, the Iberian lynx was once again present in Abenójar (Ciudad Real)
2017-09-25
On September 22nd, Abenójar hosted the "Lynx Territories" Exhibition, coinciding with the Second Edition of the Hunting Days in the Ciudad Real municipality. For this reason, a presentation of the Life+IBERLINCE Project was conducted by Fomecam specialists, whose main focus was the compatibility between quality hunting management and environmental conservation, and, thus, hunting and conservationists sectors aligned themselves with the central theme: "The Iberian lynx, the hunter’s ally".
Among the attendees, representatives of various domains of the rural world turned up and immersed themselves in the actions carried out within the Iberlince Project, the milestones achieved, the Iberian lynx’s current situation, addressing threats and dangers that surround the species, as well as the achievements and successes obtained at a transnational level, and in particular, due to its proximity, in Castilla-La Mancha.
Abenójar, which not so long ago witnessed the presence of the Iberian lynx in its well-preserved Mediterranean woodlands, is aware of and involved in promoting the importance of the area’s biological diversity and, at the same time, acknowledges the need to find sustainable spaces where all sectors involved, in one way or another, in the conservation of the rural environment and the environment itself, can coexist. Along with promotion and dissemination efforts, a series of activities were also carried out with the younger audience to address and impart this issue which is unknown to them. More than a dozen children took part in storytelling, face painting, a footprint-pendant and shirt-painting workshop, in short: they learned while having fun.
We thank the Hon. City Council of Abenójar for their interest and involvement in developing the activities carried out in their municipality, and hope that, very soon, this territory becomes an area of expansion for such an emblematic of our Mediterranean forest.
