Lynx collar found in Portugal

Yesterday, Wednesday, September 28th, early in the afternoon, specialists from the ICNF (an Life+IBERLINCE associated beneficiary) were notified of the finding of an iberian lynx’s radiolocating collar. The collar was found next to the reservoir in the Pereiro civil parish, Alcoutim municipality, by the Alcoutim GNR (National Republican Guard).

The collar belonged to the female lynx called Nara, released in the São João dos Caldeireiros parish, in Mértola. She had recently been located by ICNF specialists south of Vascão, near this region.

The lynx collar was cut with a knife or another cutting tool. It would only be possible to remove the collar by this method if the animal had been immobilized, either by administration of a drug or if the animal were dead.

In view of the high probability that this is evidence of a crime, the intervention of the SEPNA Section / GNR of Faro was requested, which will examine the records regarding this lynx’s last locations.
