Iberlince briefs Ciudad Real’s livestock sector on Iberian lynx reintroduction developments
2017-10-19
On Tuesday, October 17th, Fomecam specialists gave a talk directed at stockbreeders, veterinarians and shepherds of the Ciudad Real province. The meeting was held at the El Chaparrillo Agri-environmental Research Centre, in Ciudad Real.
At this meeting, which was organized by said centre, almost fifty people gathered, all related to the province’s livestock world. During the event, it was detailed how the Iberlince project is developing in the region, and how it can interact with the livestock sector.
The dissertation covered the species’ possible causes of extinction in the autonomous community and the dangers that still prevail today. Likewise, it reviewed all actions undertaken within the Life project to prepare, improve and conserve the feline's habitat, ensuring that the species successfully settled and reproduced in Castilla-La Mancha.
Once the project’s results were presented, the participants asked diverse questions regarding biology, causes of extinction, solutions for traffic collisions and the reduction of rabbit populations. This generated a debate on the current situation in the countryside and its influence on livestock farms.
On behalf of Fomecam and Iberlince, we’d like to thank for the opportunity to hold this event at the "El Chaparrillo" premises, and we especially thank Esau Martínez, Director of the "El Chaparrillo" Centre, as well as D. Vicente Alcaide and D. Agapito Navarro staff of the aforementioned centre. Their help and collaboration were essential to accomplish this awareness-raising endeavour within a sector that shares the natural environment with the wild species inhabiting it.
