Iberlince holds seminars for journalists in the reintroduction area of Montes de Toledo
2017-11-28
Since yesterday, the Life+Iberlince project has held seminars aimed at journalists as part of its dissemination actions, at the El Castañar estate, located in the reintroduction area of Montes de Toledo.
On the first day, there were interventions by Francisco Martínez Arroyo, Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Development of Castilla-La Mancha; Monserrat Fernández, deputy director of OAPN (Autonomous Organization of National Parks); and Miguel Ángel Simón, director of the Life+Iberlince project, who explained the achievements made in the recovery of the Iberian lynx in the Peninsula and Portugal, as well as the challenges that the project faces in the future.
It was on this estate, owned by the Finat family, that the first Iberian lynx was released in Castilla-La Mancha, after years of the species’ absence in the area. Since 2014, a total of 16 Iberian lynx specimens have been released on this farm.
At the event, journalists were able to see, in situ, habitat improvement measures carried out by the project – such as warrens or prairie crops – with the goal of increasing rabbit populations, the Iberian lynx’s primary prey.
