Villamanrique hosts the "Lynx Territories" over the Christmas holidays
2017-12-26
The "Lynx Territories" exhibition travels to Villamanrique (Ciudad Real) to illustrate the progress made by the LIFE+Iberlince Project within the various reintroduction areas of the most threatened feline on the planet.
These areas, located within Castilla-La Mancha, are Eastern Sierra Morena in the Ciudad Real province, and Montes de Toledo, mostly within the Toledo province.
The exhibition panels constitute a tour of the different situations that the species has gone through, the geographical locations of well-established lynx populations, and the reduction of these populations throughout the last century when it was "critically endangered". Thanks to the Iberian lynx reintroduction project in Spain and Portugal, it has been possible to increase the number of specimens to around 500, which has allowed the species to be upgraded to the less severe status of "endangered"; an additional achievement, undoubtedly, but one that is still far from the end goal whereby this species will be able to live at sufficient population levels to allow it to acquire genetic diversity and escape this situation of special vulnerability.
We encourage all to participate in the project by simply contemplating the exhibition and receiving first-hand information about this very special specimen of singular beauty, and one that you should consider your most special neighbour.
The exhibition will be held at the Villamanrique Cultural Center until January 8th, 2018.
We thank the Local Government and the Villamanrique University for welcoming us at their facilities, as well as for their availability and closeness.
