Iberlince specialists attend the Annual Bearded Vulture Meeting in France
2018-01-15
In mid-November, the annual bearded vulture meeting was held in Passy, Haute Savoie (France). This event gathers all the projects, institutions and people who are in various ways linked to the reintroduction, recovery and conservation of the bearded vulture (Gypaetus barbatus) in Europe, and beyond.
For this occasion, Fomecam specialists assigned to the Iberlince project travelled to said location to attend the meeting. The bearded vulture, an endangered species locally extinct in several areas across Europe, is a clear example of how it was possible to reverse such a dire situation thanks to the efforts of countless people, and with the support of European Life funds.
During the meeting, the species’ different reintroduction and conservation programs were presented, some of which fall within the Life funding framework, such as Life Gypconnect and LifeGyphelp.
It was very interesting to learn about approaches and actions that led to successful reintroductions of this species, and how to apply them to the particular case of the Iberian lynx.
Grateful for the great appreciation on part of both the organization and the audience, which propitiated an exceptionally suitable environment to exchange information and share difficulties and solutions.
