The name Orisón, Iberian king of the third century B.C. from the area of Jaén
2018-01-16
Finding a name for an Iberian lynx that begins with the letter O, that is original and hasn’t been used before, is no easy task. The name must agree with the feline it’s intended for, and this is what many participants have been saying since December 22nd in their submissions to the #BautizaUnLince campaign, through which the Life+Iberlince project wants citizens to participate in the ‘baptism' of the new specimens that will be released in 2018 in the Andalusian region.
As in the case of Alberto, who emailed us proposing the name Orisón or Orisson, Iberian king of the third century B.C. of the area of Jaén. His proposal is not fortuitous, and one only has to look in Orisón’s biography for proof, where it states he was an Oretani guerrilla who went down in history for charging a Carthaginian camp with burning bulls, which facilitated the Iberian attack.
The name of Orisón has been added to the hundreds of proposals we’ve received, from which we will choose four names for the seven lynxes that will be released into the wild in the coming months, in the Guadalmellato and Guarrizas reintroduction areas.
The submission deadline for your proposals ends next Friday, January 19th. If you haven’t done it yet, do hurry!
