Cordoba schoolchildren baptize one of three Iberian lynx specimens that will be released in 2018 in Guadalmellato with the name Omeya
2018-01-19
This morning, 4th and 5th grade students of the Ferroviario de Córdoba school baptized one of the three specimens that will be released this year in the Guadalmellato reintroduction area (Córdoba) with the name Omeya. This way, the schoolchildren participate in the #BautizaUnLince campaign promoted by the Life+Iberlince project to engage citizens (in this case, children aged 9 to 11) in the baptism of the new specimens that will be released into the wild.
These were the same students who, in 2017, baptized Niebla, the female Iberian lynx whose body appeared last December 26th shot in Villafranca de Córdoba. It was at this exact place that the students witnessed the release of the female Niebla, daughter of Coscoja and Kilimanjaro, an activity on which they later made excellent school projects.
According to their comments this morning during the Iberlince staff visit, they still recall the moment of Niebla’s release as "one of the most exciting of their lives", one that they will relive in the coming months when they attend the release of another specimen in the Guadalmellato valley.
A total of three specimens (one female and two males) will be released in 2018 in the Guadalmellato reintroduction area.
