Orisón, Ofelia, Obulco and Oxyura, the names selected in the campaign #BautizaUnLince for four of the lynxes that will be released in Andalusia
2018-01-23
Obulco, Ofelia, Orisón and Oxyura. These will be the names of four of the Iberian lynx specimens that will be released into the wild in the Andalusian reintroduction areas (Guadalmellato and Guarrizas) over the next few weeks, as decided by the Life+Iberlince project team, among the hundreds of received proposals.
Of these four names, three are intended for female specimens, such as Obulco, Ophelia, and Oxyura, and one for a male, Orisón, the name of a third century B. C. Iberian king.
Since the project launched the #BautizaUnLince campaign on December 22nd, over five hundred names have been received through emails, Twitter and Facebook, some of them very original and accompanied by interesting stories, which we’ve been sharing on our website and social networks. Like Deiane and her dog Orson; or Sara, who sent us a drawing along with the suggestion of the name Onda; or the students from a school in Murcia, who suggested a constellation name, Orion.
Upon reviewing the name list, we also highlight Oetam, suggested by a child who turned his name (Mateo) around to baptize a lynx; or Osiris, Robert’s idea, who sent us a magnificent school project on the Iberian lynx along with its submission. And many more like Olé, Oleum, Ostra, Orgullo, Osada, Olaf, Ocarina, Ósculo, Orellana, Ojinegro, Olakase, Olimpia, Océano, Osiel, Okay ... for which we would like to thank each and every one of you.
Through this informative campaign, the Life+Iberlince project wanted you to participate in yet another year of 'baptizing' approximately one year-old specimens born in 2017 that will be released in the Guarrizas Valley (Jaén) and Guadalmellato valley (Córdoba) reintroduction areas.
