Iberlince wins the prize“Kingdom of Jaén-La Campiña”
2015-03-27
Yesterday, on March 26th, 2015, Miguel Ángel Simón, director of the Life + Iberlince project, on behalf of all members of the project, received the award "Campiña Natural" of the Kingdom of Jaén-La Campiña Awards, a celebration held in Cine Capitol of Arjona (Jaén).
This award recognizes the efforts of all members of the Life + Iberlince project aiming at the protection and recovery of the historical range of the Iberian lynx in the Iberian Peninsula.
In 2000, the lynx population in the peninsula comes down to the core of Andújar and Doñana.
These small populations begin to take hold due to the work of the previous two Life projects, and it is from the Sierra de Andújar, that are collected the first specimens for captive breeding.
The descendants of these Lynx are now abound territories of Portugal, Extremadura and Castilla-La Mancha, enabling the recovery of territories where this animal lived in the past.
However, the Iberian lynx populations in the Sierra de Andújar continue to grow and become a part of an increasingly proud territory to have them as neighbors.
Thank you very much.
