2015-03-05
The Life+Iiberlince program released today, in the reintroduction area of Eastern “Serra Morena”, three new Iberian lynx specimens. One male and two females, coming from the ex-situ captive breeding program.
In this way, we continued the reorganisation process started last July, with the release of the first Iberian Lynx, in the southern province of Ciudad Real, which aims to recover one of the historical distribution areas of this species in Spain.
Lugo and Llera, male and female, that were created in the center of Zarza de Granadilla, and L1 Fernandina, created in the center of La Olivilla are the names of the specimens released today.
Their release took place after all the specimens have been subjected to prior checks made in establishing centers where they are from.
To these three specimens, is expected to join another specimen coming from the breeding center in captivity of Silves, which will be set free next April.
In addition to these four specimens, will also be released in the month of April, three more, in this case, are intended to reinforce the population of Montes de Toledo.
The new lynx reintroduced into the Eastern Serra Morena, were released in a territory that has a suitable and sufficient food abundance habitat to ensure its correct adaptation.
Lynx, before being released into the wild were identified through a photographic record and were equipped with radio transmitters necklaces that will allow the environment agents and technicians of the Board of Castilla-La Mancha Communities and the Life + Iberlince program, perform its monitoring in the field.
