Lectures about the reintroduction of the Iberian Lynx in Zarza de Granadilla

Continuing the disclosure and awareness activities about Life + Iberlince project, there were two lectures in the city of Zarza de Granadilla, where is the reproduction center of the Iberian Lynx in Extremadura.

The lectures performed by the technicians of the Reproduction Center, were directed to children between 3rd and 4th year of secondary Education school, belonging to the IESO Institute of Zarza de Granadilla.

In them was explained all the current problems on lynx conservation, why the need for a reproduction program in Captivity, the operation of the Captive Breeding Centre of Zarza de Granadilla and all due preparation for the reintroduction of lynx in his habitat.

In addition to the lectures, the necessary environment was explained (ecosystems, species, conservation state...). The change in habitat due to human over-exploitation, has implications for the natural balance, causing a consequent decline in biodiversity. To describe it, we used graphic examples, which express the current situation of the Iberian lynx and its main prey, the wild rabbit, stressing the importance of the presence of predators in ecosystems.
