2015-04-23
Students of the College of Pre-School and Primary School, "Nuestra Señora del Sagrario", were responsible for electing the names of the next lynx which will be release this spring in Montes de Toledo.
The technicians of the Project Life + Iberlince made a presentation about the reintroduction of the Iberian lynx program in castellanomanchega region. The students showed great interest and many of them were quite made aware of the beneficial presence of their new feline neighbors.
The next lynx to be released in Montes de Toledo, is a female from the Breeding center of Silves (Portugal) and a male from the Breeding center of La Olivilla (Santa Elena, Jaén). The names chosen by the students of Mazarambroz are Lila to the female and Lucero to the male.
The other Lynx copy to be released in Montes de Toledo is a female and is called Lava and comes from the Reproduction in captivity center of El Acebuche (Huelva).
This initiative, together with the participation of students from Castellar de Santiago in the refuge of fauna "Chico Mendes", where it was elected the name of Lúa for the Iberian lynx female, that will be released in the Eastern Sierra Morena, resulted in the election of new names for the lynx to be released during the month of April in Castilla La Mancha, whose exact date has not yet been disclosed.
These actions with the population of reintroduction areas cause a greater commitment to the released lynx, thereby increasing participation and involvement with the reintroduction project.
Members of the Life + Iberlince Project in Castilla La Mancha, thanks to the staff of CEIP "Nuestra Señora del Sagrario" of Mazarambroz, all interest and collaboration in the development of this activity.
