Releases Calendar of Iberian Lynx specimens born in captivity, in Andaluzia in 2015.

At the end of 2010, the release of the first Iberian Lynx in the wild, born in captivity began. “Grazalema” and “Granadilla” were the protagonists from the Iberian Lynx Breeding Center of “La Olivilla” (La Carolina, Jaén) in the area of reintroduction of Guarrizas´s (Jaén) river valley.

In 2012, the release of Lynx born in captivity in the reintroduction area of Guadalmellato´s (Córdoba) river valley has continued. Since then, were release a total of 53 specimens, from the four Breeding Centers, inserted in the Iberian Lynx Breeding Program in Captivity in both reintroduction áreas in Andaluzia. This experiment was considered a success, since not only the specimens have adapted to the environment, as if they have been reproduced since 2012.

In recent years, more than numerically contribute to these two areas was performed a genetic management with the objective of achieving the maximum variability in both cores upon selection of specimens born in captivity witch reported more variability to the already established Lynx.

For this year of 2015, there are two the specimens that will be released in Andalusian lands. "Lenteja" born in CCLI "El Acebuche", released on the 10th of April in Guadalmellato and "Laurel" which will be released on 28th of April in Guarrizas. "Laurel" is a male born at the National Center for Iberian Lynx Reproduction of Silves in Portugal he comes from a litter of three cubs, Biznaga female descendants. Upon completion of the veterinary check-up and after being radiolabeled, "Laurel" lies ready to be released in the wild.
