2015-04-27
Her Majesty Queen Sofia, accompanied the President of Castilla-La Mancha, María Dolores Cospedal to during the release of two lynx in Toledana town of Mazarambroz.
These are two females, called Lava and Lila, born at the beginning of 2014 in the breeding center of Silves (Portugal) and El Acebuche (Huelva). These animals join the group of twenty other specimens of this of endangered feline that were released in the region last year.
This reintroduction is the result of the work of the Life + Iberlince Project, coordinated by the Regional Government of Andalusia in witch participates the Castilla-La Mancha Government, an initiative which focuses on the work for the reintroduction of the species as a recovery method.
In Castilla-La Mancha, the lynx had almost disappeared, so it was necessary to allocate human and material resources to adapt the habitat to the needs of this animal, and brought them back to the natural environment to achieve a core of stable population in Castilla-La Mancha.
Thus, in July last year, in the south of Ciudad Real, began the reintroduction actions with the release to the wild of Kiowa, a female from the Reproduction center of Zarza de Granadilla (Cáceres), and since then, were release twelve specimens in this area.
There is a note that, after this time, all the reintroduced animals had a satisfactory adaptation, which confirms the suitability of the areas selected for their reintroduction.
Likewise, in the region of Montes Toledo, in which were reintroduced in 2014 eight specimens of lynx, two of them they have left the area as a result of the natural motion dispersion of this species.
