2015-10-23
The Monitoring Committee of the Life+Iberlince Project met in Sevilla on 18 September to assess the current development of the project and the situation of releases made in the areas of reintroduction in 2014.
Analyzed the evolution of these areas in Portugal (Vale do Guadiana, Mértola) and in Spain (Valley Matachel, Badajoz, Montes de Toledo, Toledo, Eastern Sierra Morena, Ciudad Real and also Guadalmellato, Cordoba and Guarrizas, Jaén) it has been seen that they have evolved according to the forecasts made in spite of the sustained low.
Cubs production of the captive breeding program was studied; a proposal to reintroduce distribution was raised in 2016. This proposal was approved and has given the number of existing copies in each area, and is as follows:
For Vale do Guadiana (Mértola), which currently has nine copies, 5 males and 4 females, there will be 6 females and 3 males, in a total of 9 individuals.
In the Valley of Matachel (Badajoz) the current population is 5 males and 5 females (in the proposal have not been taken into account the 6 cubs born in the area), the proposal for 2016 is 3 males and 5 females.
For areas of Montes de Toledo (Toledo) and eastern Sierra Morena (Ciudad Real) the proposal is in Montes de Toledo with a current population of 2 males and 6 females, it would proceed to the release of 6 males and 4 females increasing population of 10 individuals. In eastern Sierra Morena which currently has 3 males and 4 females proposal includes 5 males and 4 females.
In Andalusia areas Guadalmellato (Córdoba) 5 copies loose, 1 male and 4 females are contemplated, with a current population of 45 individuals (14 males and 18 females). Guarrizas area (Jaen) a total of 6 people, 1 male and 5 females would be released, this area currently has a population of 41 individuals (14 males and 16 females).
Concrete release copies in each zone will be determined by genetics specialist Dr. Godoy.
The releases began in February 2016, to fill the quota for each area of reintroduction.
