A fossil found in a cave in Vallirana has been dated in 1.6 million years.

The Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus) appeared at least 1.6 million years ago, half a million years earlier than previously thought, as demonstrated by the dating of a fossil found in the cave of Avenc Marcel, in Barcelona city Vallirana. The analysis, which was published in the journal Quaternary Science Reviews, has led Alberto Boscaini and other researchers at the Catalan Institute of Paleontology Miquel Crusafont (ICP).
