Rabbits begin to breed in the Valley Matachel, Extremadura
2016-01-05
Possibly and probably in long-term, the success of the iberian lynx’s reintroduction in the different areas of the peninsula depend on the evolution of the wild rabbit’s populations. In some of these areas there has been for two or three years, as in the rest of the territory, a decline of rabbit populations. So it is gratifying to see the reproduction of rabbits in the fields. In Matachel Valley, the area chosen for the reintroduction of the lynx in Extremadura, area detected signs of this reproduction. But sometimes finding is made almost by accident, as in this case. In a camera placed to follow the lynx behavior, a rabbit was portrayed several times in mid-December in the bustle of carrying straw and other items to make the nest for rabbits.
Hopefully this is the year of good parenting for rabbits and lynx.
