The fifth puppy: Lincesa with five puppies?
2016-01-07
The monitoring by camera trapping of the lynx in the field sometimes gives surprises and unknowns left unsolved. In one of the new territories of Sierra de Andújar recolonized by species thanks to the actions of the Life+Iberlince Project, it took place monitoring tasks that were performed using camera traps to see if the female "Choker" managed to spawn a second time. By late spring the first photographs of three cubs in the vicinity of a water point were obtained. Since then, the task of tracking with multiple camera traps in order to monitor the status of the puppies and make correct identification by individual records with photographs of the two sides of each issue intensified. With the photographic material that was getting along summer, she began the headache; four sides nervous and never static puppies, and finally to our surprise is first obtained, five puppies, with their different sides:
We have not detected any other childish or adult female in this country and all the evidence and photographs taken by camera traps are female "Choker" accompanied by up to four cubs. So we can make all kinds of guesses, but we will always doubt about motherhood fifth puppy, perhaps an adoption?...
