New release of Iberian lynx in Ciudad Real

On the last Monday, 8 February, the fourth release of Iberian lynx was carried out in the area of reintroduction of Sierra Morena Oriental in southern Ciudad Real. This release was done in the framework of the Life+Iberlince Project, which aims to recover the historical distribution of this cat in the Iberian Peninsula.
The Lynx released was Mesta, a female born at the Center for Captive Breeding of the Iberian lynx in Silves, Portugal. This copy is attached to the other three individuals who have been released during the past fortnight released in Ciudad Real.
With this female, the number of lynx reintroduced in the province stands at 16 since they began the releases in July 2014.
As the previous examples, Mesta has successfully passed all pre-release health checks as well as being radiolabeled for later tracking and tracing in the natural environment by the project technicians Life+Iberlince in Castilla La Mancha.
The Life+Iberlince Project, which has 19 partners and is managed in Castilla-La Mancha by the Community Board, AProCA, Fomecam and WWF, which continues working on its goal of stable populations of Iberian lynx to ensure the survival of the species and avoid the shadow of extinction.
