New release near the area of Guarrizas River (Jaén)

Under the Life+Iberlince project, and within the program of releases planned for this year in the area of reintroduction of Guarrizas river (Jaén), today a new iberian lynx wanders for the area of the Guarrizas river. With this, there are already 4 females released in this annuity in this area.

It is Mirinda, a female that SEPRONA collected on a road in the area of reintroduction of Guadalmellato (Córdoba) after being alerted by a driver indicating that the small animal stood by the road with symptoms of disorientation. After being handed over to project technicians, we proceeded to transfer the Center Captive Breeding of the Iberian lynx of the Ministry of Environment "The Olivilla" (Jaén), where the animal was checked to verify that it was in perfect condition. During these months it has been trained to be released in the middle of the fields along with two copies of the same age. After a full technicians from the Life+Iberlince Project of the Ministry of Environment and Land Planning of Andalusia have now released in the municipality of Vilches where it is expected health review and radiolabeling, share territory with other copies of their species.

Thanks to the awareness and cooperation of citizens with the project and custody of territory, manifested in the high number of cooperation agreements signed between private and public lands and the Ministry of Environment and Land Planning, little by little they are getting important milestones defined in the Life+Iberlince Project such as releases of new specimens in the middle of the fields, their reproduction once released or the connection between the different populations of Iberian lynx present in Sierra Morena.
