2014-11-04
Last Friday, 31th of October, was located a dead Lynx on Las Viñas de Peñallana (Jaén), a semi-urbanized area, on Iberian Lynx distribution area of Andújar-Cardeña.
Found was made by an individual, which uncovered the animal by accident. It was possible to know that was a grown up Lynx male, by its hair, born on 2009.
This dead was due to an illegal trap, to kill carnivores. Las Viñas de Peñallana historically was a conflict area, where used to be found illegal traps to the carnivores or wild boars capture, although for several years weren’t found this kind of traps.
On the year of 2002, and by Life Naturaleza projects scope, took action an intensive surveillance program, due to which this kind of practices was significantly reduce, in such a way that last year’s results were inexpressive.
The monitoring of these areas, made by Project Life field teams, although had never stopped, will be intensified on the area.
