Malvasia acts normally in the fields of Montes de Toledo
2016-03-17
Following the news that recently appeared in some media about the "run over of Iberian lynx in Montes de Toledo" from the Life+Iberlince Project we aim with this new on our website to clarify some issues that do not fit fully to the facts.
By midday of the last Tuesday, March 8, the 112 emergency services received a call from the Civil Guard (which had already been alerted by a driver) telling about the collision of an Iberian lynx in the road O-3638 Ventas with Rock Aguilera - San Pablo de los Montes. The emergency protocol established for such events has been activated and after a few minutes Environmental Agents of the Regional Government of Castile-La Mancha and the field staff of the company Fomecam (responsible for monitoring the lynx released under the Life+Iberlince Project) reached the point indicated.
After a depth study of the place itself and the places nearby, it was not located any evidence or exemplary body hurt, not even clues, traces of blood or parts of the vehicle, which could confirm the message received. Anyway, the location of the units controlled by the project is checked, noting that the only copy present in the area is the female Malvasia. Once ythe copy is located, it is found to be in a good physical condition, normal behavior and absence of external wounds.
On the following days, to rule out internal injuries, there is a continuous monitoring confirms the good condition of the lynx, as shown in the picture accompanying this release and video available on the project website and youtube channel performed Life+Iberlince Project.
Anyway, it is important to remember that the abuses are a major cause of mortality of the species and unfortunately some individuals will lose their lives for this cause, hence the importance of respecting the signs and speed limits, circling cautiously in roads that run through the lynx areas.
For any information or clarification, the Life+Iberlince Project has an email, comunicacion@iberlince.eu, which is available to any media who needs it.
