With Kala and Kivu release, there are currently eight reintroduced lynx in Ciudad Real

With the release of two Iberian lynx specimen, bred in captivity, Kala and Kivu, on the 12th of June in Castelar de Santiago (Ciudad Real), was finished the first stage of Iberian Lynx reintroduction in Castilla-La Mancha, which had as its aim the release of eight specimens at Serra Morena east area.

Kala and Kivu, join to Kung-fu and Kiki, all of them bred in captivity in the National Iberian Lynx Reproduction Centre, in Silves (Portugal), and were released as part of Life Iberlince project, which as the goal of recover this emblematic specie, in a part of the territory, which has been historically occupied by them.

With the released of these eight specimens was taken on more steps to achieve the goal of increase Iberian Lynx present population in Iberian Peninsula and expand their population clusters beyond the traditional territories, which until now have been in Doñana (Huelva) and Andújar-Cardeña (Jaén).
